- Rice - 1 cup
- Thoor Dhal - 1/2 cup
- Coriander Seeds - 1 tbs
- Salt - 1 tsp
- Tamarind Water - 1 cup
- Channa Dhal - 1 tbs
- Dry Red Chilly - 5
- Venthayam - 1/2 tsp
- Asafetida - a pinch
- Sambar Powder - 1 tsp
- Gingelly Oil - 2 tbs
- Ghee - 2 tbs
- Potato - 1 medium
- Brinjal - 1 medium
- Cluster Beans - 5
- Beans - 10
- Carrot - 1
- Pumpkin - a thin slice
| Preparation Method |
- Cook the rice in 2 1/2 cups water.
- Cook the thoor dhal separately in 1 cup water adding a pinch of turmeric powder.
- Clean and cut the vegetables into large pieces and cook them in water.
- Fry the channa dhal, coriander seeds, venthayam, asafetida and red chilly in some oil and powder them along with the salt.
- Heat up the tamarind water and as it starts to boil
- add the sambar powder and the prepared powder and mix.
- Let it boil for 5 more minutes until the raw tamarind smell disappears.
- Add the cooked vegetables and the cooked thoor dhal and boil further for about 5 minutes.
- Add the gingelly oil and ghee to the cooked rice and mash it well.
- Pour the prepared sambar over the rice and mix evenly.
- DO NOT use a ladle or spatula to mix, as it would cause the vegetables to be mashed as well.
- Apart from the vegetables mentioned, you may add any other vegetables like Chow-Chow, Raw Banana, Yam , etc., according to your liking and taste.
