- 3 cup - cauliflower, cut into pieces
- 1 cup - grated coconut
- 1 cup - tomato, chopped
- 1/2 tsp - turmeric powder
- 2 tsp - sambar powder
- 3 tbsp - oil
- 1 tsp - mustard seeds
- 1 tsp - cumin seeds
- 2 tsp - black gram (urad) dal
- 2 - dry red chillies, broken into pieces
- salt to taste
| Preparation Method |
- Grind coconut coarsely with tomato, without adding any water. Mix in turmeric and sambar powders.
- Heat the oil in a kadai. Add mustard and cumin seeds.
- When they splutter, add the dal and chillies.
- When the dal turns light brown, add cauliflower and salt.
- Keep covered on low heat till the cauliflower is cooked. (little water may be sprinkled if needed)
- Add the ground paste and continue to simmer on low heat till the raw smell of masala is lost.
- Increase the heat and cook stirring till the excess moisture is absorbed and the playa is almost dry.
- Serve hot as part of traditional meal or with chapathi.
